Safari
We recommend doing a safari, being able to experience the wildlife up close and personal, is a once in a lifetime opportunity that is purely magical! The best safari locations are not near Cape Town, most are accessed via Johannesburg.
We recommend doing a Safari in South Africa either before or after the wedding as you will be flying from Joburg en route or back home. South Africa is our first choice, if this is your first Safari as you will still have a good chance of seeing the Big 5 all year round (not season dependant), it’s cheaper as not quoted in USD and easier to get too.
Cape Town offers direct flights to Joburg and Kruger smaller airports to access the Private Game Reserves. The best experience is choosing accommodation that offers daily game drives and is all inclusive. You can stay at range of places varying from $ - $$$.
You can book Safari accommodation via Booking.com or through Safari Agents depending on the experience you want. You will notice that the most famous safari stays can only be booked via an Safari agent.
Please bear in mind that some Safari accommodation options/areas are very expensive etc Sabi Sabi Sands. This is due to the fact that you are guaranteed a leopard spotting, its very rare to spot a leopard as they are very elusive, however these areas have trained the animals over several years to come closer to the safari vehicle so that is what you are paying for. Remember the animals don’t know what you are paying so the more expensive accommodation options are purerly for luxury, asesthetic and amentities.
There is alot of information regarding Safaris and it can be quite overwhelming to find where to go. Tripadvisor Forum is your best friend for real authentic advice and you can always reach out to us for any questions. Google sometimes provides limited knowledge and does boost the private luxury expensive options.
Safari Locations we recommend:
Kruger National Park (many accommodation options here) - Private Game Parks that border the KNP include
4 hour drive from Joburg
Should you need a private driver, we used Barry Pieterese and can’t recommend him enough. He drove us 4 hours from Joburg Airport to our Safari at Marataba Mountain Lodge. Email Here
